Getting Around: Of all the districts that make up the capital, the Marais certainly remains one of the most singular, unique of its kind. The exceptional setting in the heart of Paris is the oldest district of the capital Here you can still see small narrow streets and old buildings that survived the great Haussmann gaps. The beautiful Place des Vosges remains a highlight of the visit, where many Parisians enjoy the sun lying in the grass. Several cultural institutions have taken up residence in the Marais, with the Picasso Museum or the Carnavalet Museum at the top of the list, to learn all about the history of Paris. The Marais is fascinating for its diverse and varied atmospheres. Around the Rue des Rosiers spreads out the Jewish quarter, with its shops, caterers and numerous falafel sellers. A few streets further on, you enter the gay district of Paris: trendy shops fill up, trendy cafés compete in inventiveness and some hairdressing salons look like nightclubs... further north, the Marais becomes Chinese, in the direction of République. There is no shortage of restaurant addresses in such a busy neighbourhood.
